The 68th annual Grammy Awards occurred on February 1st and included the famous ceremony recognizing music’s most impactful artists. The award show was hosted by six-time host Trevor Noah and shown on CBS for the last time. Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, and more artists won big while other up-and-coming artists celebrated their first wins.
Bad Bunny won three Grammys, including Album of the Year for “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS”, becoming the first Latin artist to win the prestigious award as well as the first non-English album to win Album of the Year. Bad Bunny also won Best Música Urbana Album and Best Global Musical Performance ahead of his exciting and polarizing SuperBowl Halftime Show.
Kendrick Lamar, who performed at the Super Bowl last year, also won a lot of awards last night. Lamar, now the most-awarded hip-hop artist of all time, won 5 awards, including Record of the Year for “Luther” with SZA and Best Rap Album for “GNX”. He rounded the night out with winning Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Melodic Rap Performance.
In addition to Bad Bunny and Lamar, more impactful artists won big awards. Billie Eilish won Song of the Year for her hit “Wildflower” and used her speech to speak up against ICE’s policies in America. The coveted Best New Artist went to Olivia Dean, known for her hits like “Man I Need” and “So Easy (To Fall in Love)”. Dean’s victory came after a heated debate over who would win the award, following each nominee’s performance on the Grammy stage.
Some of the other standout wins included Lady Gaga for Best Pop Vocal Album, Lola Young winning Best Pop Solo Performance for “Messy”, and “Defying Gravity” from Wicked won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Many artists had great success, and multiple awards were handed out during the ceremony, with Young and Dean leading first-time Grammy winners. Sabrina Carpenter, however, was shockingly snubbed, losing to all six of her nominations.
