Hersheypark’s ZooAmerica welcomed a new resident Friday, September 19th: a Cuvier’s Dwarf Caiman named Ori.
Cuvier’s Dwarf Caimans are native to northern and central South America and are the smallest members of the crocodilian family. In human care, they can live up to 60 years. Ori currently measures 3.7 feet long and weighs just 21.5 pounds.
According to a post from ZooAmerica, Ori arrived from the Ellen Trout Zoo in Texas, an AZA-accredited facility, and has now settled into her new habitat in the southern swamp section of the zoo. She turns 24 later this month.
ZooAmerica says Ori’s role goes beyond being a new attraction; she serves as an ambassador to help educate visitors about crocodile species found in the United States.
