The 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show took place Sunday, February 2 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time, and Pennsylvania native Sabrina Carpenter took home two awards.
Carpenter won Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “Espresso” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n’ Sweet. Carpenter’s sixth album, Short n’ Sweet, sold more than 2 million copies in the US alone.
Spotify at the end of the year announced that Carpenter’s hit song “Espresso” was the highest global song with 1.6 billion streams. Carpenter’s blockbuster year included the third most streamed album with “Short n’ Sweet,” and has accumulated over 3 billion streams over her hit songs, “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” and “Taste.” Carpenter also opened for fellow Pennsylvania native Taylor Swift’s global Eras Tour. Swift, however, took home none of the awards in the six categories she was nominated for.
Sabrina Carpenter was born in 1999 in Quakertown, Pennsylvania and grew up in East Greenville, PA, about an hour and a half from Hershey. Carpenter blew up on Disney Channel in 2013 with her role in Girl Meets World as Maya Hart. Including a successful acting career, Carpenter released her debut album Eyes Wide Open in 2015. She would go on to have notable success with her first five albums, but not compared to her “overnight fame” that occurred in 2024. Carpenter’s song “Espresso” has been commonly called the “song of year” with over 1.6 billion streams, being the most streamed song on multiple platforms.
Carpenter was nominated for the first time in her career with six Grammy nods, notably being a top contender for Record of the Year and Best New Artist. Ultimately,Record of the Year went to “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar and Best New Artist was awarded to Chappell Roan.
