Eshleman: Hi Coach Gergic, thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. After the 7-1 loss against Boiling Springs on May 8, what were your overall thoughts on the game?
Coach Jeff Gergic: Boiling Springs played a solid game today. They came out prepared and took advantage of their opportunities. I thought our team showed effort, but we struggled to execute in key moments, especially offensively.
Eshleman: What do you think was the biggest challenge for Hershey during the game?
Coach Jeff Gergic: I think consistency was the biggest issue. We had some good defensive plays and moments where we competed well, but we left runners on base and couldn’t build momentum at the plate. Against a good team like Boiling Springs, that makes it difficult to stay in the game.
Eshleman: Was there anything you saw from your players that stood out positively despite the loss?
Coach Jeff Gergic: Absolutely. I thought the players continued to fight and stayed supportive of each other throughout the game. That says a lot about their character. We also had some strong defensive efforts that kept us in it early on.
Eshleman: What lessons can the team take away from this game moving forward in the season?
Coach Jeff Gergic: Every game is a learning opportunity. We need to improve our approach at the plate, stay focused defensively, and continue working together as a team. Losses can motivate you if you respond the right way.
Eshleman: How do you plan to prepare the team for the next matchup after this result?
Coach Jeff Gergic: We’ll go back to practice and focus on the fundamentals. We want the players to stay confident and keep improving every day. The season is long, and one game doesn’t define us.
Eshleman: What message did you give the team after the game?
Coach Jeff Gergic: I told them to keep their heads up. Baseball is a game of ups and downs, and it’s important to learn from tough losses while staying positive and continuing to compete.
Eshleman: Thank you for your time, Coach Gergic.
Coach Jeff Gergic: Thank you.
