Located in downtown Harrisburg, the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building houses many essential parts of state government, including the Senate, House, Supreme Court, and offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor.
When Theodore Roosevelt visited the Capitol in 1906 for its dedication, he declared, “This is the handsomest building I ever saw.”
The Capitol’s centerpiece, its rotunda, features four circular murals to Law, Science, Religion, and Justice. Constructed between 1902 and 1906, the building’s architect, Joseph Huston, envisioned it as a “palace of art.” (Broadcaster/Millicent Godoy)
