ZooAmerica announced the loss of one of its beloved cinnamon black bears, Murphy, on November 25.
According to the zoo, Murphy had been suffering gastrointestinal issues, along with complications from advanced diseases. After all other treatment methods were exhausted, the zoo decided to euthanize him.
Murphy arrived at ZooAmerica in 2016 after the Montana Fish and Game Commission determined he was not suitable for release into the wild. This decision was made after he was found approaching people’s porches in search of food.
“He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by our team and everyone who witnessed his exceptional personality and gentle spirit,” said ZooAmerica in a social media post addressing the bear’s passing.
