Young Democrats Plan for 2018 Elections

Katherine Clark, Reporter

Hershey High School’s (HHS) Young Democrats club had their first meeting on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Reporting their planned outline for the school year and driving their attention towards the 2018-19 General Elections, Young Dems are looking forward to begin their campaigns in the support of our local Democratic representatives.

Shifting their focus from last years Primary Elections, the members of the Young Dems will be volunteering their time during school hours to campaign for Hershey’s local Democratic representatives. This years General Election will be taking place on November 6. Club members and volunteers will pass out literature and help support the representatives running in the 2018-19 elections.

As the General Election takes place this upcoming November, the club members will also encourage voter registration and inspire more Democrats to go out and vote for this years representatives. Making this as a yearly goal to increase voting rates and support those running for a position.

Continuing several of their traditions from last year, the Young Dems will also take part in taking trips to the Harrisburg Capitol for “Tuesdays with Toomey,” an organization that holds weekly meetings to discuss local and global issues with Senator Toomey. The Young Dems will be participating in these weekly meetings after the General Election takes place. If you would like to participate, visit Tuesdays With Toomey to signup and receive emails giving further details regarding their weekly meetings.

If you wish to be a member of the Young Dems club, new members are always welcome. Contact the club advisor, Tim Bean, or attend their weekly meetings every Thursdays to find out more information about their future events and fundraisers for the 2018-19 school year.
