Eid-The three day Muslim holiday that takes place at the end of the month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is a month-long holiday where Muslims across the world fast from sunrise to sunset. At the end of the month, Muslims take part in a celebration that lasts for three days known as Eid. During that time, Muslims will get together with friends and family to celebrate the end of another successful month of fasting.

As a Muslim, the three days of Eid are just as important to me as the month of Ramadan. While during Ramadan, I have to keep myself away from all food and water until the sun goes down. On Eid,  I can have as much food as I want.

Everybody has their own traditions for Eid. However, there are certain things that every Muslim is expected to do. On the morning of the first day of Eid, we go to the mosque to pray. Usually the prayers take about an hour, and after that, we spend time getting together with friends and family. At the mosque that I go to, we usually have a light breakfast set out for the people after prayers. It is a tradition in our community for every family to bring something to contribute.

After we are done with prayers, we usually go home. What happens afterwards depends on the people. In my family, we have a tradition that everybody will get together at my grandparent’s house. During that time, we eat lunch and catch up with family members that we may not have seen in a long time. After meeting with our family, we usually go home until the evening.

In the evening of that first day, the entire family will once again meet at my grandparents home for dinner.

Eid is a holiday that every Muslim looks forward to in their own way. It is a chance to dress up in nice clothes and celebrate with friends and family.

In our family, all of the clothes that we wear on Eid are made by hand. My grandmother will take our measurements months before and then make the clothes herself. While for other occasions we may buy our clothes, for Eid they are always made at home.

My grandmother will spend months working on multiple clothes for all of us. We usually have clothes for each day of Eid, and we have several for the first day. Usually, we have an outfit for the morning when we go to the mosque, and then we have an outfit for the afternoon when we go to my grandparents house. We also have an outfit for the evening when we all have dinner together.

It can be difficult for my family to find a way to set time aside for Eid since we don’t really get actually get a day off. If Eid falls on a weekday, then I usually have to skip school, and my parents have to take a day off from work. It can be inconvenient to put our schedules on hold like that, but getting to celebrate the most special holiday in Islam with our entire family is definitely worth it.

So, if you really want to know more about Islam and the holidays we celebrate, why not ask a Muslim-or even take part in the celebrations yourself.
