On April 7th, 2017, a few Spanish students from Hershey High School went to Washington D.C. accompanied by Spanish class teachers and a few parents. The students, teachers, and parents were split into groups and combined with a class from El Institut Màrius Torres in Lleida, Spain. HHS students and the students from Spain visited some of the Smithsonian Museums.

The students from Spain seemed to have enjoyed their trip to the United States.

“This is so cool. This visit is so interesting. It’s nice to meet new friends,” said 11th grader Tamara Beltran.

According to HHS Spanish teacher Lynn Shirk, the students from Spain have been communicating with the higher level HHS Spanish class students for two years through programs like Flipgrid, a video discussion community for classrooms. Every year the teacher from Spain, Mariant Rubies Farre, brings some of her students to the United States. According to Shirk, some students from the Hershey Spanish classes try to meet up with Rubies Farre’s class whenever they are in the US.

One of these Hershey students, junior Cameron Brown, said he “loved spending time and meeting with people from a different part of the world.” He enjoyed learning about their culture and experiences.
