Weekly Batch of Bach Episode 9: Final Three in Finland

Madi Held and Shanna Sweitzer

Every week, Madi Held and Shanna Sweitzer are giving you a weekly review of ABC’s The Bachelor.

Hosted by Chris Harrison, this show airs on Monday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC and is about a single man looking for a woman with whom he would like to spend the rest of his life. After extensive interviews and auditions, 30 women were picked to be on the show this season. In each episode, there are group dates and one-on-one dates where the bachelor gets to spend time with the contestants. At the end of every week, there is a rose ceremony where the bachelor narrows down his choices by giving roses to the girls he wants to stay another week. Those who do not receive a rose are then “sent home” from the show. This helps him to then focus on the girls that he thinks will be the best for him. At the end, the bachelor must decide between the two remaining girls which one he’d like to propose to. Many couples end up breaking off their engagement and splitting up, but there has also been a lot of successful couples that do get married and even have children. The show has become popular all throughout America, and on January 2, 2017, the 21st season started with Nick Viall as America’s Bachelor.

Continued from last week…

Andi Dorfman returned to visit Nick right before the rose ceremony this week. She just dropped in to ask him about how he’s doing and what he was thinking about at that moment. The two of them poured a drink and had a bit of a tense conversation. “I’m not going to get engaged just because I’m the bachelor,” Nick said. He has always been really insecure with himself and I think he’s really afraid to put himself out there and commit. They both apologized to each other for everything bitter they had done to each other in the past. They had a very civil conversation and Nick received some good advice from Andi.

Rose Ceremony

Shanna

Raven received the first rose at the ceremony, locking her in for another week. Rachel got the second, but it almost doesn’t matter. I think this is still ridiculous that they already announced her as the next bachelorette before she even went home on this season. It ruins the suspense. Vanessa got the third and final rose leaving Corinne to be walked out. Finally, FINALLY she was sent home. It took long enough. Nick wasn’t even emotional when saying

Out of the three girls left, Raven got the first and only date in Finland on this episode of The Bachelor. She and Nick played some darts, snuggled up near a fireplace, and she finally told him that she loved him. (ABC/Mitch Haaseth)

goodbye to her; she was nothing but a fling. I don’t think there were any deep feelings on his end. After Corinne left, Nick and the three remaining girls flew to Finland.

Raven’s One-on-One Date

Madi

The two started their date off with a helicopter ride around Finland. They spent the afternoon messing around and playing darts. They took time to just stop and talk and catch up since last week. They had a serious side to the conversation but also some more ridiculous conversations like whether to use a steamer or an iron. They later had dinner and talked even more. She explained to him how she had never told anyone that she’s in love with them before. She went into an entire story about how her dad would pray for her to have love come easy to her and she said that for the first time, it did come easy. Following that, she told him she loved him and they both got really emotional about it. They really connected on a deeper level.

Shortly after, the episode ended. Raven’s date is still not over but the episode was cut short due to a new show premiering after. Next week will be a special 3-hour long episode with the extra hour being The Women Tell All. This is when the women who had been eliminated on the show, return on a talk show with Chris Harrison and Nick. It’s always really entertaining seeing all of the girls back together again after all that has happened (and all they’ve seen of each other on the show).
