Weekly Batch of Bach Episode 4: Sweet Home Milwaukee

Madi Held, Shanna Sweitzer, and

Every week, Madi Held and Shanna Sweitzer are giving you a weekly review of ABC’s The Bachelor.

Hosted by Chris Harrison, this show aires on Monday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC and is about a single man looking for a woman with whom he would like to spend the rest of his life. After extensive interviews and auditions, 30 women were picked to be on the show this season. In each episode, there are group dates and one-on-one dates where the bachelor gets to spend time with the contestants. At the end of every week, there is a rose ceremony where the bachelor narrows down his choices by giving roses to the girls he wants to stay another week. Those who do not receive a rose are then “sent home” from the show. This helps him to then focus on the girls that he thinks will be the best for him. At the end, the bachelor must decide between the two remaining girls which one he’d like to propose to. Many couples end up breaking off their engagement and splitting up, but there has also been a lot of successful couples that do get married and even have children. The show has become popular all throughout America, and on January 2, 2017, the 21st season started with Nick Viall as America’s Bachelor.

Continued from last week…

Vanessa and Nick talked it out about Corinne’s behavior and what Nick’s true intentions are on the show. Everything was fine after that, and shortly after, they had the rose ceremony where two girls, Christen and Brittany, were not given a rose and were sent home. Corinne got a rose which of course made all of the other girls extremely mad, but this show is about entertainment. They have to keep the drama going, and without Corinne, there would be no drama.

The next day, the girls flew to Nick’s hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

One-on-One Date 1

Shanna

After getting the rose on last week’s group date, Danielle L. was up for the next one-on-one date with Nick. The two of them perused the streets of his hometown, where many of his childhood memories were made. After they decorated cookies, they were passing the shops. Here, Nick happened to see one of his ex girlfriends who urged him and Danielle L. to join her. Surely, that was not planned. Anyway, the conversation could not have been more awkward, but Danielle asked his ex some tough questions about Nick and got some really good answers regarding his past relationships. There were a few more awkward moments, but they eventually left her and went to a grassy field, sat on a blanket, and had a nice conversation.

After the sun set, they went to have dinner, and Danielle revealed things about her past. She talked about how her parent’s divorce having a great impact on how she views love. Nick paid close attention, comforted her, and reassured her of the feelings she was beginning to have for him. She got the rose and then they pushed through a crowd of people at a concert to the front, where danced in front of everyone to Chris Lane’s performance.

I really like Danielle L. and I think Nick is really starting to develop deep feelings for her. He really seems to care about her and makes a point to reassure her.

Group Date

Madi

Since there were two one-on-one dates this week, there was only one group date. This group date consisted of Rachel, Alexis, Vanessa, Jasmine, Jaimi, Sarah, Whitney, Kristina, Astrid, Taylor, Josephine, Danielle M., and Corinne. This date was not a usual group date because it took place on a dairy farm. The girls and Nick milked cows, scooped poop, and more while there. Corinne refused to participate in some events, like scooping the cow manure, because her gloves were too tight and were cutting off her circulation. She then later admitted that she thought she was going to have to go to the hospital because it was so bad. She definitely overreacted and just came up with an excuse to not do the dirty work.

They then had a cocktail party after that so everyone could spend some time with Nick. Corinne decided to speak up for herself while talking with all the girls since she had been hearing whispers about herself. She spoke up to everyone saying that if someone was to have a problem with her, they should confront her about it so they can deal with it and move on. Sarah then spoke for herself and the girls (and I think all of us watching) asking if Corinne thinks she is really ready to get married and have a mature relationship with someone like Nick. The bickering went back and forth for a while and other people pitched in their comments to Corinne as well. Later on when Corinne had her time with Nick, she brought up that she had talked to all the girls and she thought they had resolved any problems, which wasn’t true.

At the end of the date, Nick handed out the one rose to Kristina, securing her a spot for the next rose ceremony.

One-on-One Date 2

Shanna

Raven was really lucky to get this one-on-one date in Nick’s hometown. They met up with Nick’s sister, Bella, at her soccer game where they warmed up with the team. They had a blast. Raven thought it was so amazing seeing Nick interact with his sister and the other kids. When the soccer game started, Raven got the huge privilege to meet Nick’s parents. They all sat and watched the game together, and his parents really seemed to like her. That can be a very nerve racking situation and Raven handled it really well.

After that, they followed the soccer team to a roller rink. Bella told Raven what a good brother Nick is and how grateful she is for him. The two of them talked for a while before joining Nick on the rink and skating together.

Dinner for the two of them was at the Milwaukee Art Museum where Raven talked about her ex boyfriends. One of them, had been cheating on her and she told the whole story of how she witnessed it first hand. Nick sympathized with her and supported the way she handled the situation. To no surprise, Raven got the rose and then they skated around the art museum together.

Raven is one of my favorites right now. The two of them have so much chemistry and they just really fit well together. She’ll make it far.

Corinne and Taylor

Madi

Taylor, 23 year old mental health counselor from Seattle, WA, stirred up some trouble this week. When Corinne confronts Taylor, the two of them get into a nasty argument, criticizing each other’s actions. (ABC/Mitch Haaseth)

During the cocktail party, drama went down between Taylor and Corinne who had a major  argument. Taylor called Corinne out, saying rude things about Corinne’s personality, behavior, and age (even though they are the same age). Corinne fought back at Taylor talking about Taylor’s job of being a mental health counselor and how stuck up and overconfident she always sounds. They tried to stay mature, but as the conversation went on, it just got more out of hand and more heated. This lead to no resolution of the problems and making the entire situation worse. Before the show ended, there was a clip of Corinne saying how she was planning to go punch Taylor and end things for good. I don’t think that will actually happen, but it increases the drama and suspense for next week’s episode.

How’s Nick Doing?

Shanna

I’m proud of Nick. After all the things he has done on The Bachelorette, people have grown to dislike him. He redeemed himself a bit on Bachelor in Paradise but needs to maintain his recently improved reputation. Being the bachelor, I think he’s doing it. He’s respecting the girls, keeping an eye out for tension, and is actually developing genuine feelings. As for all the Corinne drama, I think he likes her a little but definitely has to keep her around for entertainment purposes.
