On October 7th, the Revive Matthew 5:16 club held a session for Hershey High School’s Second Annual Community Day. During the session, HHS students wrapped boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

The club’s name is inspired by a verse from the Bible. The Revive Matthew 5:16 is a Christian club that allows HHS students to have a community in which they can grow together in their faith. This year the club’s name has changed to Revive Matthew 5:16 in the hope that more students will join.

During the first session, ten students wrapped boxes to send to Operation Christmas Child through the Samaritan’s Purse. This is an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization that provides aid to people in need as a key part of Christian missionary work. The boxes will be sent out the week of October 31, and each individual box will be sent around the world to give less fortunate children a gift on Christmas.

The Revive Matthew 5:16 sessions held 41 students. Spanish teacher Mrs. MacNicol is the club’s advisor. She played an informational video about Operation Christmas Child. MacNicol provided orange juice, wrapping paper, and craft supplies to decorate posters.

“I love Christmas! Thinking about a child having nothing to open on Christmas compels me to make their Christmas through Operation Christmas Child,” said Haley Terhaar.

While students wrapped and created posters, Christmas music set the mood for a relaxing time. Last year Hershey High School sent two boxes through operation Christmas Child. This year the club wants to send at least 20 boxes.

Katie Fackler, HHS sophomore, enjoyed the session. “I believe it is important to give back to the those who have so little while I have been fortunate to have so much,” said Fackler.

On Friday November 11, Revive Matthew 5:16 will be having a packing party after school. Students will pack and load all the boxes collected for Operation Christmas Child. The club will donate the boxes to a local church for them to be sent out around the world.
The main goal for Revive Matthew 5:16 is for students to be a positive light for Hershey High School.
