Same ocean, different story.
“Finding Dory” will finally be released on June 17, 2016. This is the long-anticipated sequel to the critically-acclaimed film, “Finding Nemo.” Dory, a friendly but forgetful blue tang fish, is now the main character of this film. “Finding Dory” reunites Dory with friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past.
The directors of “Finding Dory” are Andrew Stanton and Angus MacLane. Many actors that voiced the characters in “Finding Nemo” are returning to make an appearance in this new film. Some of these include Ellen Degeneres as Dory, Albert Brooks as Marlin, and Andrew Stanton as Crush. However, Nemo will no longer be played by Alexander Gould and will now be played by Hayden Rolence. A full list of the cast is available here.
As the title entails, Dory will be the main character of the film. In “Finding Nemo,” due to Dory’s short term memory loss, no history or background information about her was known. Therefore in the new film, Dory will go on a quest to find out more about her past and hopefully find her parents. The sequel will take place just six months after the original film.
According to Business Insider, “Finding Nemo” is the most profitable Pixar movie of all time. It had a profit of $846 million and a domestic gross of $340 million. Forbes Magazines predicts that “Finding Dory” will surpass the popular movie, Frozen, and become #1 on the highest-grossing movies of 2016.
To achieve this goal, “Finding Dory” has to appeal to the five to ten year olds when “Finding Nemo” first came out, who are now around their teens or twenties. Therefore, “Finding Dory” will incorporate humor that older people can relate to while also be appealing to younger fans. “Finding Dory” will be rated PG for “mild thematic elements.”
On June 17th, join Dory and her friends on a search for answers about her past in movie theaters near by.
