Recently, the Unwell drink company founded by podcast host Alex Cooper, made their debut in the energy drink market. The company focuses on creating better alternative options to hydration and energy drinks.
The company started off with hydration drinks spanning across multiple flavor palettes, which were a big hit. I personally enjoy the mango citrus flavor the most.
Most recently, they started producing sparkling energy drinks that are meant to be a better alternative to normal energy drinks like Alani or RedBull. The caffeine is an all natural caffeine coming from green coffee extract, as to where normal energy drinks contain chemical caffeine.
I personally enjoy the little pick me up that all natural caffeine gives me compared to the overly energized feeling that comes with the chemical caffeine of Alani or Celsius.
The Unwell line has 4 flavors: passion fruit orange guava, watermelon, cherry lime, and pineapple coconut. I have tried all of them and it’s safe to say that the pineapple coconut is my favorite.
The pineapple coconut is so refreshing and tastes just like a carbonated pina colada. The drink consists of the perfect amount of coconut and just enough pineapple to make it sweet but it doesn’t overpower the other flavors.
While the taste is extremely delicious when first opened, after about 20 minutes, the drink becomes flat and leaves you with a sad mix of juices and caffeine that isn’t as tasty.
Every drink line has to have an unfortunate flavor, and in this line, it’s the watermelon flavor. I had high hopes for watermelon as I normally enjoy watermelon flavoring, however this was the most horrendous flavor I ever drank. It tasted like they melted down watermelon sour patch kids and then mixed in water and made it carbonated.
The longer the drink was open and became un-carbonated, it just became worse and worse. Safe to say, the watermelon flavor will not be making it back into the rotation in my day to day life.
The brand has seen quite positive feedback from the community with many influencers calling it “refreshing” and “not chemical-like”. Many people are making the switch to this energy drink or a similar healthy one after seeing the feedback and the healthier ingredients, including natural caffeine, no sugar, and a mix of daily vitamins.
Overall, the launch was a big success in creating a “healthy” energy drink that people enjoy. With its success, I hope to see more flavors approach the market and possibly even special seasonal flavors.
