New Club at HHS: Stitched

New club at Hershey High School, Stitched, knits and crochets blankets, hats, and mittens for The Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey. Founder of the club and HHS junior, Lauren Kim, got the idea when she shadowed a pediatric nephrologist at the hospital.

“I got to follow her while she was on call and we talked a little about financial issues for families of patients,” said Kim. After seeing the hardships of patients’ families, Kim decided that she wanted to help.

“While I have seen schools with knitting/crocheting clubs,” said Kim, “I have not seen a club that donates their finished products to a children’s hospital.”

With the help of Mrs. Ives and sophomore Christine Tang, Stitched received a club fund from Student Council in November.

“Stitched also held a yarn donation drive at the Hershey Public Library, and it was super successful; we received two large boxes of yarn and a ton of knitting and crocheting tools. It was great to see the support for Stitched in the Hershey community,” said Kim.

The club provides all materials for crocheting and knitting, and they welcome all students and no experience is needed.
