The film stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, and Zendaya as Chani, the love interest. Atreides is described as a “brilliant and gifted young man”, whose powerful family moves to the dangerous planet of Arrakis to obtain a valuable substance. This substance is referred to as “the spice” that allows travelers to essentially manipulate time, prolong human life, and obtain other powers. On his journey on Arrakis he meets Chani, a native of the land, and their relationship flourishes throughout the film.

The version of Dune premiering isn’t the whole story. If Dune: Part One does well in the box office, then the Warner Bros have said that they will fund the next film. Currently, Dune has pulled in $40 million in its opening weekend domestically and $220 million worldwide.  On a budget of $160 million, Dune is very likely to get its second part.

When consulting the director and co-writer about the importance of creating both parts of the movie, Denise Villeneuve emphasized that the contents from the book wouldn’t fit into the appointed time slot.

“I would not agree to make this adaptation of the book with one single movie,” Villeneuve said to Vanity Fair. “The world is too complex. It’s a world that takes its power in the details.”

To watch the film before it premieres in theatres, download HBO Max, to watch their exclusive showing on October 21st; otherwise, tickets must be purchased soon to watch in theaters.
