Lil Nas X takes Video of the Year at 2021 MTV Video Music Awards

The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards happened on Sunday, September 12, 2021.

Lil Nas X was the winner of Video of the Year, according to MTV’s official VMA website, for his music video to Montero (Call Me By Your Name). Justin Bieber took home artist of the year, while Olivia Rodrigo won Song of the Year with her debut of driver’s license.

Other winners were BTS with Group of the Year, Travis Scott for Best Hip-Hop, and Machine Gun Kelly and Blackbear for Best Alternative. 

Olivia Rodrigo also won Best New Artist, having the third most nominations and tied with Billie Eilish and Giveon among others, according to CNN. Bieber, however, led the nominations, with seven in total

A new award was also introduced, with the Foo Fighters accepting the first U.S. Global Icon Award, according to People magazine, after performing a medley of their hits. 

Featured performances included Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow, Doja Cat, Shawn Mendes, and Alicia Keys.
