The decisions regarding spring sports seasons have been a challenge for the PIAA. As winter sports continue, athletes and coaches are entering their spring sports season with caution.

Games for spring athletes are scheduled to begin the first week of March. Although the PIAA has released little information about how the season will be impacted.

According to the PIAA, fall and winter sports seasons were condensed including post season games. Only the district champions moved on to the state championship tournament, and it is likely spring sports will continue with these guidelines.

Junior girls lacrosse player Allie Hahn said, “I am very thankful we are still able to participate in the sports we love during this tough time.”

In addition to a condensed season, spring athletes will be expected to follow the same Covid-19 safety protocols as fall and winter athletes. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, wearing a mask, social distancing, and sanitizing properly is the safest way to allow student athletes to participate in their activities.

“It is hard mentally not knowing if we are going to get shut down again,” Hahn said, “It is also frustrating that we might not get a full season when we missed out last season as well.”
