Patriots Select lose to Maryland United

Patriots Select 14u Baseball went up against Maryland United, the game went into two extra innings and was ended with a three run home run hit by Cody Furman in the bottom of the ninth for Maryland United, who came out on top 6-4.

“I think we played pretty good, we just made some bone-headed plays that cost us a few runs.” said Jim Janovich, Patriots Select head coach.

Michael Kern, an eighth grader at Hershey Middle School, hit a three RBI double to right field in the fourth to give the Patriots their first three runs.

Tyler Mummert hit a single to left field in the fifth. Mummert was able to steal second, third, and home to give the Patriots their fourth run.

The starting pitcher Gavin Ulsh, a ninth grade student at Lower Dauphin, pitched deep into the game, but was replaced by Tyler Close in the sixth.

Close let up four runs, including the walk-off three run homerun in the ninth.

The early season game brings the Patriots their first loss with a record of 3-1. The Patriots will soon face the Williamsport Angles in a double header on Saturday, May 4th.
