National Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in August every year, so on Sunday, August 2, 2020, grab your closest friends and have a fun and special day.

According to the National Day Calendar, the origin of National Friendship Day dates back to 1919, when it was founded by Hallmark. The original idea was for people to send friends cards. Then, in 1998, the United Nations named Winnie the Pooh the Ambassador of Friendship.

Later, the United Nations named July 30th International Friendship Day, but most countries continue to celebrate this holiday on the first Sunday of August. Why not just celebrate both days?

To celebrate this day of friendship, reconnect with an old friend, make a new one, or spend time with a current friend.

A few fun ideas are to go on a picnic, hike, go on a bike ride, swim, or go out for ice cream.

Make a post on social media using the hashtag, #NationalFriendshipDay to promote others to celebrate their closest companions.
