Hershey High School’s first Walk for Clean Water was a success on Sunday, April 10, 2016.
$17,579.49 was raised to fund a clean water well for an impoverished village in Swaziland. According to Michael Miller, HHS junior and creator of the Walk for Clean Water website, this total amount exceeded HHS Key Club’s goal of $12,000.
About 300 members of the community came out for the walk that spanned the HHS campus. The walk consisted of 3.75 miles, the distance that residents of impoverished villages have to walk each day to get water.
Many local businesses, organizations, and people sponsored the event. Some of the main sponsors included Mike Leonard’s Plumbing, who donated $1,500; Endodontics Associates, who provided donations for shirts; and HCYA, who donated $1,000.
