July 8th is National Freezer Pop Day, and it’s the perfect time to chill out and enjoy one of summer’s coolest snacks.
Freezer pops—also known as ice pops or freeze pops—are colorful, fruity treats that come in long plastic tubes. You just freeze them, snip the top, and slurp away! They’re great for staying cool during hot summer days and sharing with friends at the park, pool, or backyard.
These icy treats were invented in the 1960s by Frank Epperson. Epperson was 11 years old at the time and had accidentally froze some soda on a stick outside overnight, and the resulting frozen treat became his “Epsicle”. He later sold the rights to the popsicle brand to the Joe Lowe Company. They have been a summer favorite ever since. Freezer pops come in all kinds of flavors, from strawberry to tropical punch—and even sour green apple!
To celebrate this year, families are planning freezer pop parties with games, music, and of course, lots of pops. Stores often have freezer pops on sale around the holiday, so it’s a great time to stock up.
So mark your calendars, grab a freezer pop, and enjoy the sweet taste of summer on July 8th!
