Dauphin County has approved plans for a new aquatics center, SwimHershey, to be built in the next 9-12 months.
This building will offer residents of Dauphin County a new regional aquatics training and competition center. The new facility will be about 48,000 square feet and will be approximately a 44-acre piece of land located off Crystal A Drive in Hershey.
The President of SwimHershey, Daniel Clough says the pool will hold 1,000,000 gallons of water with a minimum depth of 8’2″ and a maximum depth of 13’6″ in the diving well of the pool. There will also be both 1M and 3M diving boards provided, as well as several new locker rooms for guests.
One of the most exciting factors is the moving parts associated with the pool, so that it can be used for several different events and scenarios. This includes two 2-meter movable bulkheads, allowing for the pool’s format to be changed so that there can be multiple different types of events and sports that can also use the facility.
President Clough wants to ensure people know the new SwimHershey Aquatics Center is being built to allow for sanction with state, NCAA, Team USA (USOPC), and World Swimming (FINA) governing bodies.
SwimHershey will make the facility space available to programs in the area, including numerous neighboring high schools and clubs without pools. The pool can be used for multiple different things like water polo, diving and artistic swimming. These new designs will also help accommodate simultaneous training and competition.
