Hershey Boys and Girls Cross Country teams defeated Cedar Cliff and Palmyra on Senior Night in a tri-meet at Shank Park on September 19, 2023.
The Hershey boys led by junior Vinay Raman easily defeated Palmyra 18-40. Raman crossed the line first with 17:12 followed by HHS junior Jacob Abraham with 17:16. Hershey pushed across the finish five runners before the Cougars had their second finish. Senior Eddie Liszka (17:25), freshman Max Hulays (17:56), and junior Will Chappell (17:57) put the race out of reach. Hershey also trounced Cedar Cliff 15-50 by getting nine runners across the finish before the Colts’ first runner.
Despite an early challenge from the Palmyra girls, the Hershey girls team won 22-34. The Trojans were able to get three runners—sophomores Sophia Kim (21:02), Evie
Winder (21:26), and senior Yanwei Liu (21:30)—ahead of the Cougars’ number one, Avery Rohrer. The Trojans rounded out the scoring with sophomore Maddie English (22:14) and senior Lucy Barto (22:40). The HHS girls also thrashed Cedar Cliff 15-49 by getting five runners across the finish line before the Colts’ first.
This season, the Trojans are a combined 10-0 in the Mid-Penn Keystone Division.
The Trojans took home a pair of trophies and a decent haul of medals last Saturday at the Ben Blouser Bulldog Invitational at Big Spring High School. The boys won with Vinay Raman’s 15:47 winning time. The girls took second with sophomore Sophia Kim leading the charge with a 19:28.
The Trojans travel to Lower Dauphin on Tuesday, October 3 to wrap up the regular season. If the Trojans defeat Lower Dauphin, they will wrap up the Mid-Penn title with an undefeated season.
Next week, Cedar Cliff is off to Susquehanna Township, and Palmyra is off to Mechanicsburg.
