National Donut Day
June 5, 2020
National Donut Day is always held on the first Friday of June, this year the celebration will be on June 5th.
According to National Today, in 1938, Donut Day was established as a way to honor members of the Salvation Army that came to the aid of soldiers during World War I.
During this time, a group of volunteers was given the mission of providing comforting meals to troops.
They soon found out that donuts were a perfect way to get comforting foods out quickly, using war helmets as a utensil to fry up seven donuts at a time.
These volunteers would later be known as “donut lassies.”
Many stores are giving away free donuts in honor of these brave volunteers.
Be sure to visit your favorite donut shop, choose a variety of these deep-fried desserts, and enjoy.
