Hershey Ice Hockey Falls to Palmyra

The Hershey Ice Hockey team fell to Palmyra in an overtime loss with a final of 7-6 in the crosstown matchup Friday, November 22, 2019. 

The Trojans came out strong during the first period, taking an early 3-0 lead with goals from Ian McDonald, Hank Reed, and Jason Rippon in the first five minutes of the game.

In the thirteenth minute of the first period, Karsyn Kehler scored to add to the Trojans lead.

Early in the second period, Kehler added another goal to make the score 5-0. 

Both teams played strong defense throughout the second period. Despite this, halfway through the second period, Palmyras Kyle Ziemba scored to put The Cougars on the board. Palmyra’s goalie was able to stop 8 of the 9 shots on goal, and Hershey’s goalie, Chris Larkin, stopped 3 of 4 shots. 

The Cougars started out the third period with four early shots on goal but were unable to score. The offensive attack continued, and soon the Cougars broke through.  Palmyra added three back to back goals coming from Kyle Ziemba, Gavin Buck, and Owen Schmidt to make the score 5-4. 

The Trojans quickly retaliated with a goal from Jason Rippon, increasing The Trojan lead to two. 

At the end of the third period, Palmyras Johnny Eldridge and Owen Schmidt each netted goals to tie the game and force overtime. 

Both teams came out strong offensively and defensively, each putting three shots on goal, but were unable to score.

After four minutes of strong play, Kyle Ziemba scored for the Cougars to secure the overtime win by a score of 7-6. 

The Trojans record now stands at 6-0-0-1 and are still in first place of The Bears Division. The next game will be Friday, December 6 at Lancaster Ice Rink against Manheim Township at 9.
