Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral on fire
April 15, 2019
A fire has broken out at the famous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, this afternoon.
The fire is still burning, with the Paris Fire Brigade battling the flames. CBS News reported the 300-ft Gothic spire on top of the cathedral has collapsed, as well as large portions of roof.
The 13th century church attracts over 13 million visitors a year, and had been expecting large crowds just six days before Easter Sunday.
In a tweet, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo called it a “terrible fire,” and urged onlookers to stay away from the area.
The exact cause is not yet known, but Paris officials say it may be due to renovation on the church. No injuries have been reported.
