The NFL celebrated its finest players and coaches at the NFL Honors Awards on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Awards were given for the best performances of the year, and seven retired NFL players were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan took home awards for Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Offensive Player of the Year (OPY), becoming the first Falcons player to win either honor. It is his first award since winning Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2008. Ryan led the Falcons to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1999.

Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack won Defensive Player of the Year, ending Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt’s three year streak. Mack was a crucial part of Oakland’s first playoff run in 13 years, where they coincidentally lost to the Texans 27-14 in the Wild Card round.

Dallas Cowboys rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott were longtime frontrunners for the title of Rookie of the Year. Prescott won the award, becoming the first Cowboys player since Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith in 1990 to win the award. Prescott was joined on stage by Elliot, whom he thanked for his help on and off the field.

Former San Diego Chargers running back Ladainian Tomlinson and former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner were notable inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, along with long-time Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Other inductees included former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis and former Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor. Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens, who holds the second most receiving yards of all time, was held out.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson received an award for Comeback Player of the Year. Nelson missed the entire 2015-16 season after a devastating ACL tear in the preseason. He came back to lead the league with 14 touchdown catches, and caught 97 passes for 1,257 yards.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald jointly received the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, given for their positive contributions to their communities off the field.
