Corrupt Trump Policies
December 7, 2016
The election has ended, and with the end brings a new beginning.
The 45th President-Elect of the United States, Donald Trump, plays a substantial role in this new beginning. This is very concerning for many U.S. citizens, and I am among this group. The policies Trump has proposed can be potentially destructive. Of all of his policies, there are two that I most strongly disagree with: immigration and health care.
The health care plan in America is currently the Affordable Care Act. According to
The U.S Department of Health and Human Services, the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare, is an act that allows young adults under the age of 26 to get health care, as well as other benefits. These benefits include having coverage for pre-existing conditions and preventive care, which gives people the ability to prevent illnesses.
Trump wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act. This is worrisome mostly because he does not have a clear plan to replace it. Without the Affordable Care Act or an actual plan, American healthcare will go to ruin. There would be no plan or organized method of ensuring that people get proper healthcare or the benefits that go along with it.
There is a similar theme of impracticality with Trump’s immigration policies as well. Trump wants to construct a wall on the border between the U.S. and Mexico to deter illegal immigrants. He also wants the Mexican government to pay for his proposed wall.
On Twitter, the president of Mexico, Peña Nieto, said, “At the start of the conversation with Donald Trump, I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall.”
There are also problems with his proposed ban on Muslim immigrants.
According to USA TODAY, Trump’s policy regarding Muslims has changed multiple times and has even been removed from his website. He originally proposed a complete and total ban on Muslim immigration, with the intent of keeping terrorism out of the United States. This proposal promotes racial and religious prejudice inside and outside of the government. He gave terrorism a face, and his supporters feel passionately about abolishing it. This feeds into the fear and heated anger people have for terrorists. All of those feelings are now directed towards the Muslim citizens of our nation. The Muslim ban is a terrible idea.
Mike Pence, Trump’s vice president, said the ban was “…offensive and unconstitutional.”
After Pence’s statement, the Trump-Pence platform changed the proposal. Trump’s proposal now states that it is a temporary ban for immigrants that come from places that harbor terrorists. This brings to question how long “temporary” really is. One year, or ten? It isn’t well defined. It’s important to have control over the borders and keep the United States safe from danger, but we must also uphold our beliefs on freedom and equality. This policy doesn’t do that. It puts all of the people of terror-stricken countries into a single category. Terrorists. Nothing else. Not children, mothers, fathers, or heros. Just terrorists.
All of the issues and inconsistencies in Trump’s policies on healthcare and immigration are not beneficial to America. The policies should be more detailed and promote American values. Trump should have a plan to replace Obamacare that benefits as many people as possible, as well as immigration policies that keep innocent people of all countries safe.
