Niall Horan is going in one direction, and it’s up.

The 23-year-old Irish singer released his first solo single on September 29th, 2016. The singer-songwriter feel of the song gives off an Ed Sheeran vibe and shows off Horan’s calm vocals. The song was released with a black and white acoustic video on Vevo.

The single “This Town” was co-written by Horan himself, along with Jamie Scott, Mike Needle, Daniel Bryer, and was produced by Greg Kurstin. This is the first single from Horan since One Direction’s hiatus was announced in early 2016.

Before Horan released his single, he used his new time off to start a golf management company called “Modest! Golf Management.” They recently partnered with the Northern Ireland Open at the Galgorm Castle Golf Club in July.

Horan gave a comment about the company during a press release in May of 2016. Horan said,  “The next generation of golfers is a huge focus for us as a business. You only need to look at the history of the Challenge Tour to see the calibre of player it produces. We are hugely excited to be official partners to the NI Open and welcome some amazing golf talent from across the world to participate.”

However, Horan was not the first member of One Direction to release new music after the band’s split. Zayn Malik, 23, released a full length album, Mind Of Mine, in March 2016.

The other boys of One Direction have been busy as well. Louis Tomlinson, 24, had a baby boy named Freddie Reign Tomlinson on January 21, 2016. Liam Payne, 23, has been busy with new girlfriend, British singer Cheryl, as well as signing with Capitol Records. Harry Styles, 22, is making his acting debut in Christopher Nolan‘s new movie, Dunkirk, set to be released in 2017. Styles has also signed to Columbia Records.

With all of the boys working on separate things, a reunion seems out of the picture according to many sources.  The band’s mentor Simon Cowell talked about the issue to Billboard magazine in March 2016.

“I don’t know if it’s a hiatus or a breakup, to be honest. In a weird way, I don’t want to know. I don’t think they’ve had enough time to experience what it’s like not being in the group to really answer that.” said Cowell.
