Welcome to Chemistry Club

President of The Chemistry Club, Desirae Chandran along with Vice President Srija Konduru, Treasurer Katelyn Cocco, and Senior Advisor Samika Kanekar, started off their first session of Community Day by demonstrating how to make a stress ball made of a oobleck, a half solid half liquid substance. To make the oobleck they mixed water, borax, food coloring, and glue. After the creation was made, they showed off their finished product and gave the students an opportunity to make their own.

The chemistry club has been a club at Hershey High School for a decent amount of time, but they have never participated in Community Day before this year. The club meets once or twice a month, and they plan on doing things such as making cookies and  blowing up pumpkins.

Cocco loves being apart of chemistry club because of the people she meets, and the fun things they do.

“It’s cool because I get to meet people I normally don’t talk to,” said Cocco.

Chandran also thinks that being apart of something that develops your problem solving skills is very important.

Chandran wants to prove that being in the chemistry club isn’t always about tough problem solving, and that it can be fun as well. The chemistry club’s session was filled with smiles and students getting to know each other through interactive experiments. According to Chandran, their first attempt at Community Day was difficult at first, but it ended a success.
