Jaws of a beast are back to captivate a nation.
The summer’s annual week-long TV event, Shark Week premieres on June 26, 2016. This year’s theme for Shark Week 2016 is “Shark n’ Awe.” Shark Week, created by Tom Golden on the Discovery Channel, is packed with shark related shows including documentaries, stories, and breaking news. Shark Week is broadcasted to over 72 countries and is promoted through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Back in May 27th, 2016, Shark Week’s twitter (@SharkWeek) announced a few of the Shark Week programs coming this year. To go along with this year’s lineup of programs, Shark Week also released a sneak peek promo video of the “Air Jaws: Late Night Stalker” show.
“Air Jaws: Late Night Stalker” explores the great white shark’s ability to hunt in total darkness. Game of Thrones actress, Lena Headey will voice the documentary. The show features photographer Chris Fallows and shark expert Jeff Kurr.
Another anticipated show, “Isle of Jaws” goes on an adventure of award winning cinematographer Andy Casagrande as he tracks the disappearance of great white sharks from the Neptune Islands off the coast of South Australia.

Casagrande stumbles upon a large, all-male congregation near an uncharted island and discovers more information about the creatures’ mysterious mating habits. Marine biologist Dr. Jonathan Werry, is called in on the action. Werry and Casagrande get up close and personal with a dozen large great whites in the hopes of solving two of the most closely guarded of all the great white’s secrets.
The program will give TV viewers the able to immerse themselves into the adventure with virtual reality by using the Discovery VR app.
Some fan favorites from Shark Week 2015 late-night shark-themed talk show include Shark After Dark, and Mythbusters vs. Jaws
“Shark After Dark”, hosted by Eli Roth is accompanied with special celebrity guests. The hour long segment is filled with all things shark-related. Segments include shark experts, shark survivors, and marine biologists. “Shark After Dark” gives the audience an opportunity to tweet in their questions and interact with the show.
Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters stars, Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage get involved with Shark Week festivities as well. Mythbusters v.s. Jaws was one of the many popular show from lasts years Shark Week. In the Mythbusters v.s. Jaws the Mythbusters dove into shark infested waters to test theories from the 1975 classic film Jaws.
In the episode, the Mythbusters revisited the final scene of Jaws and tested the idea of if shooting a scuba tank with a bullet would actually make it explode.
Although many viewers thought they got it wrong, the myth was busted. In the episode, The Mythbusters attempted to find out if the sounds of of cars and the smell of dead sharks repelled sharks.
