On July 24, 1969, one of Hollywood’s leading ladies was born.
Jennifer Lopez, or as many fans call her “J. Lo,” started her career as a dancer in the Bronx, New York. In 1990, she won a national contest and earned a spot dancing on the comedy TV show “In Living Color.” From there, her career only went up.
Although she began her career as a dancer, she went on to also become a singer and actress. In 1997, she was picked to star as the leading actress in the movie “Selena.” Lopez earned praise from all over for her work in this movie, and at age 28, was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. With a paycheck of $1 million for that movie, she became the highest paid Latina actress in history. In 2002, she starred in the hit comedy “Maid In Manhattan.”
Her music career took off in 1999, with the release of her first album. “On The 6” was a Latin Pop album that featured her hit single “If You Had My Love.” The album went platinum in less than two weeks, making her a an incredibly influence on Latin culture in pop music. Later in 2001, her album J. Lo debuted at number one on the pop charts.
Since the start of her career, Lopez has been nominated for 54 awards, and has won 23. Including two MTV Video Music Awards, three Teen Choice Awards, and two MTV Movie Awards. Her albums have been purchased over 55 million times, with four of her songs being number 1 hits.
In 2006, Lopez married Mario Lopez and they had two kids together. The couple later split, and today J. Lo is happily single with two kids.
In 2015, Lopez earned $28.5 million, making her the 38th most powerful woman in the world.
