Summer 2016 will be a memorable one as far as movies go, with multiple sequels and blockbusters scheduled to debut. Here is a look at five of the most anticipated, must see summer movies of 2016.
Finding Dory
Arguably the most anticipated movie of the year is Disney’s animated film, Finding Dory. FInding Dory is the sequel to the hit 2003 movie, Finding Nemo. The events in Finding Dory take place six months after the events in Finding Nemo. Dory, who is voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, suddenly remembers details from her childhood. Accompanied by Nemo and Marlin, Dory sets out on an adventure to find her family. The film is set to debut on June 17, 2016.
Independence Day: Resurgence
Set to release on June 24, 2016, Independence Day Resurgence is the sequel to the original Independence Day movie. The sequel takes place 20 years after the events that occurred in the prequel. The United Nations creates the Earth Space Defense (ESD) system, a device that acts as a scanner for extraterrestrial life. However, before the aliens were defeated in the previous movie, they sent a distress signal to the rest of their colony. The colony receives the signal, and this time are sending a larger, more powerful fleet to fight the human race.
Ghostbusters
One of the most successful and recognizable movie franchises is getting a new addition this summer. In 1984, Ghostbusters was released and immediately became a must see classic. The 1984 film followed four ghost catching parapsychologists that protected New York City from the supernatural world. On July 15, 2016, a movie with the same premise will be released, but instead of the ghostbusters being men, they will be women. The trailer was disliked more than 800,000 times on YouTube. However, movies such as Star Wars, Wall-E and Frozen had unpopular trailers, but ended up being some of the best films of all time.
The Legend of Tarzan
Years after leaving the jungle for an aristocratic life in London, Tarzan is called back to Africa to investigate a mining encampment. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson and is set to release on July 1, 2016.
Star Trek Beyond
After stopping at a remote outpost on the edge of space, the USS Enterprise is attacked and destroyed by unknown aliens. The crew finds themselves in an uphill fight as they are on an exotic planet with no means of rescue. The movie will be released on July 22, 2016.
