A saga which began over a year ago has taken its latest turn.
On Monday, April 25, 2016, a federal appeals court ruled that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady must serve a four-game suspension for “DeflateGate.”
The incident happened in the 2015 AFC Championship Game where Brady was accused of using footballs that were below league-mandated pressure levels.
Originally, Brady’s suspension was nullified by federal judge Richard M. Berman. The only consequence was the Patriots forfeiting a first-round draft pick, and Brady was allowed to play the entire 2015 season.
Now that decision is reversed, New England’s star will have to sit out of the first four games of the 2016 season.
The NFL player’s association, which represented Brady, said they are disappointed with the decision. The association released a statement that said, “Our Union will carefully review the decision, consider all of our options and continue to fight for players’ rights and for the integrity of the game.”
Brady is considered one of the greatest players in NFL history, earning two league MVP awards, and winning four Super Bowls.
