Lucy Olsen, a shooting guard from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, was drafted into the WNBA on Monday, April 14, to the Washington Mystics with the 23rd pick.
Olsen, who hails from Collegeville, a borough close to Philadelphia, was drafted by the WNBA after a successful season at the University of Iowa, being the team’s leading scorer with 17.9 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.3 steals.
She played her senior season at Iowa after playing three seasons at Villanova, even being the third leading scorer her junior season, behind women’s basketball stars Caitlin Clark and Juju Watkins.
Her decision to transfer to Iowa came after Clark left the same university to be drafted number one by the Indiana Fever last year, making it a difficult position to fill for the team.
Fans will have to wait to see if Lucy Olsen makes the final roster for the Washington Mystics, because the team can only hold 12 spots before the first game.
If so, she will likely be playing alongside a rookie class of Notre Dame’s Sonia Citron, USC’s Kiki Iriafen, and Kentucky’s Georgia Amoore. The Mystics will try to make it back to the playoffs after falling into 9th place last year.
