Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship experienced a significant flight failure during its eighth test flight, Thursday March 6th.
The rocket exploded over the south of Florida, but the fiery debris fell over Turks and Caicos, the Caribbean, and the Bahamas. This led to several airports in Florida having to ground their flights to ensure passengers’ safety temporarily. NBC news reported that the FAA had to halt air traffic around Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando.
Many Americans are complaining about the SpaceX Starship Program using taxpayer dollars to fund these test rockets. They awarded SpaceX with $4 billion for the Human Landing System, which relies on starships to land astronauts on the moon.
SpaceX experienced a similar situation in January. NBC also quoted Musk’s statement to Thursday night, “As always, success comes from what we learn, and today’s flight will offer additional lessons to improve Starship’s reliability.” Musk then put it simply, “Rockets are hard.”
