Basketball
For the first time in 51 years, Hershey High School’s Boys Basketball team won the District III – 5A Championship, 69-49 against Exeter Township on February 28th, 2025.
This is a massive accomplishment for the Hershey High School Boys Basketball team, and Coach Paul Blackburn is ecstatic. He said, “I am very proud of the players, coaches, and support staff who were a part of this historic championship journey. We have been so close for so many years to winning a district championship”.
Junior Cameron Sweeney scored 28 points. James Campbell, a senior, scored 12 points during the game. Campbell is committed to Case Western Reserve University for Division III Basketball. Junior Jack Zakovitch scored 10 points.
Many “star” players have been highlighted for their excellent performance in the media like Cameron Sweeney or James Campbell. Still, Blackburn said that “each game this year featured a different ‘star,’ and the district championship game was no different.”
Blackburn thanked the students and community who showed up to support the team. “It was an overwhelming feeling to see all of the energy they gave us throughout the playoffs”, said Blackburn.
Coach Blackburn and the team are optimistic about facing their new challenge: advancing as far as they can, and they look forward to the ongoing support.
Hershey defeated Penn-Trafford 52-43 at their home playoff game on Friday, March 7th at 6:00 pm.
Hershey advanced to the state quarterfinals due to a fight between fans and players at the first-round Meadville vs Uniontown game on Friday, March 7th, which resulted in an automatic forfeiture for both teams.
Swimming and Diving
The District lll Championship went well for Hershey High Schools Swimming and Diving teams. Hershey High School boys Swimming and Diving team ranked 4th at Districts. Gavin Tran won 2 Silver Medals this weekend for the 100 Breast and 200 IM. Bryce Hammell won a Bronze Medal in the 1M Diving.
Hershey High School girls Swimming and Diving team ranked 5th. Sophomore Avery Kesterson took 2nd place in the 200 IM.
Boys Wrestling
Hershey Boys Wrestling had a huge win. Junior Christian Burd swept the District III Class 3A 160-pound Wrestling Championship last weekend. Burd is Hershey’s first Wrestling District III Champion since 2019
Track and Field
Vinay Raman won the Boys Mile State Title at the PTFCA Indoor Track and Field Championship. Ramen said, “The feeling of crossing that line was amazing. I’ve never been a state champion before, and I’m glad all the work I’ve put in with my coaches and teammates paid off”.
Raman is committed to the University of Pennsylvania for Division I Track and Field. “I owe it to my teammates who kept me grounded this indoor season,” Raman said, “always pushing me and never letting stuff get to my head, good or bad.”
Senior Jacob Abraham placed 5th in the Boys Mile State Title at the PTFCA Indoor Track and Field Championship, a massive win for two Hershey High School competitors to be in State Championship ranks.
