The month of October is dedicated to those who suffer from breast cancer. As of 2024, more than 360,000 people have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Breast cancer affects one in eight women in the United States every year and 2.3 million worldwide. Several programs, studies, organizations, and events are organized to celebrate and raise awareness for those who have struggled.
According to the American Cancer Society, the lifetime risk of male breast cancer is about 1 in 726. Men’s Breast Cancer Awareness Week is October 17-23.
A local event that’s easy to participate in is the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. It’s a 5k non-competitive walk that will be held on Saturday October 19th, to benefit the American Cancer Society.
