Hershey’s Varsity Girls’ basketball team lost 53-42 to Mifflin County on their senior night on January 10th. Seniors Lauren Yazinski and Irmarie Rodriguez were recognized after the game in celebration of their past four years with Trojan basketball.
The action started quickly in the first period with Hershey’s point guard, Lauren Richards #21 scoring multiple quick breakaway points. The action quickly came to a halt as the refs called numerous fouls on both sides, but mainly on the Trojans. The first period ended with Mifflin County leading slightly at a score of 12-11.
The second period continued with more of the same. The Trojans faced strong opposition from Mifflin County’s lead scorer and point guard, Amelia Leister #3. By the end of the first half the score was 26-21 in Mifflin’s favor.
Hershey Sophomore McKinley Ebert #23 helped the Trojans massively in the second half with a number of decisive three pointers. With the help of Denise Gould #50 and Tatum Sharp #4, the Trojans were able to briefly tie the game in the third period. Unfortunately their luck was short lived as two foul shots immediately helped Mifflin recover the lead. By the end of the third Mifflin led 36-31.
Ebert and Richards continued the action through the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to stop the momentum of Leister and the Huskies. By the end of the fourth, Mifflin County won 53-42.
Hershey’s top point scorers included Ebert with 13 and Richards with 12. Rodriguez was not far behind, but she saw less action in the game after her 4th foul in the last period.
The loss furthered the Trojans record of 0-7. Their next game is away against Palmyra.
