One of the most exciting parts of Christmas is watching classic movies with your loved ones. Netflix is known for releasing a new Christmas movie classic every year around the holidays starring some of your favorite stars. This year’s holiday movie, ‘Best. Christmas. Ever!’, was released on November 16th and stars Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood, Matt Cedeño, and Jason Biggs.
‘Best. Christmas. Ever!,’ can be streamed exclusively on Netflix and is only around 1 hour and 20 minutes long. The movie is rated PG and is a part of the comedy genre.
The plot of the movie features two friends, Jackie and Charlotte, every Christmas Jackie sends a card to Charlotte that makes her feel bad about her life. When Charlotte ends up at Jackie’s house for Christmas, she tries to prove Jackie’s life isn’t as good as she makes it seem in her card. After Charlotte tries to hijack Jackie’s family vacation, they rediscover their friendship and Charlotte finds someone to share the holidays with.
Because Netflix has released around 37 original Christmas movies since 2015, many find that the plot lines and movies as a whole end up being extremely repetitive and corny. The result has been an abundance of poor ratings for the movie, the newest addition to the Netflix Christmas collection.
For example, Rotten Tomatoes rated this movie an overall score of 38% on the Tomatometer, while the audience gave the movie an overall score of 19%.
While some critique the short length of the movie, most of the comments were about how the film “follows the predictable Christmastime themes of love, acceptance, and being thankful for what you’ve got,” Claire Shaffer highlights, a New York Times top critic on Rotten Tomatoes.
Overall, I would rate this movie a 7/10. Though it does follow the stereotypical guide of a Christmas film, I enjoyed the heartwarming ending and laughs as a way to uplift spirits around the holiday season.
