Movie Review: Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania
April 26, 2023
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a fun, action-packed film that left me excited for the upcoming phases of Marvel.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania begins with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) – who is Ant-Man – becoming a successful author, living with his girlfriend Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), and Lang’s daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton) becoming an activist. While having dinner and visiting Hope’s parents – Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) – Cassie reveals that she has been working on a device that can send signals to the Quantum Realm, a dangerous and deadly micro-universe. After learning this Janet panics and attempts at trying to shut off the device, however, this results in them getting sucked into the quantum realm. They soon find themselves interacting with new, strange, and never seen before creatures. Among that, we find out that Kang (Jonathan Majors) – a traveler that befriended Janet – was an all-powerful and dangerous being that had been exiled to the Quantum realm.
Even though critics claimed that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was “a cry for help,” it was quite enjoyable. It was released in theaters on February 17th, 2023, and was 2 hours and 5 minutes long. This movie is the latest installment for the “Ant-man” and the MCU franchise. To capture a wide audience, Director Peyton Reed mixed the action of Marvel movie, the mysticism of Star Wars while also adding a hint of humor to create it.
The visuals of the quantum realm were overall very vibrant, colorful, and unique with the many scales and proportions used to make it convincing. However, throughout the movie, there were unwanted characters and scenes that were uncomplimentary to the plot. Some of the humor was overkill and corny to the point where the “jokes” weren’t funny anymore.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is worth the watch, but my recommendation to the makers of the film would be to tone down the dry humor for any upcoming Ant-man movies.
