The highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 comedy set to release in theaters and on HBO Max July 16th.

Space Jam: A New Legacy comes 25 years after the original “Space Jam,” starring Michael Jordan. The sequel will feature Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James in his first major acting role.

James has previously appeared on the big screen, but this will serve as his first major role. He plays a fictionalized version of himself in the new movie, both live-action and animated. While James replaces Jordan in this film, other notable NBA and WNBA players will appear in cameos, just like in the original film. Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Diana Taurasi, and Nneka Ogwumike are among the pros making cameo appearances.

Just like in the original movie, Looney Tunes characters will be featured alongside the actors. This will be the first theatrical appearance since 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action to feature the iconic characters.

Comedy director Malcolm D. Lee, known for Girls Trip and Night School, will lead the production of the sequel after taking over following the departure of Terrance Nance. LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment is among the production companies producing the film.

Space Jam: A New Legacy comes out on July 16th on HBO Max and in theaters.
