Hersheypark Announces Two New Rides for This upcoming Summer

Two new water park attractions, Breakers Edge Water Coaster and Whitecap Racer, have been added to Hersheypark’s Boardwalk for the summer of 2018.

HersheyPark is an amusement park based in and around chocolate town, Hershey, PA. Hershey has become a big tourist spot because of its famous amusement park, and since the park opened in 1906, its popularity has only gone up. With 13 roller coasters, 16+ water attractions, and 26 kiddie-themed rides, HersheyPark is known for being welcoming to all ages, family and friends.

General admission has wavered between different prices over the years, but the most recent, stable price for a 1-day regular ticket is $45.00. Ticket prices vary for different age groups, such as juniors or seniors.

HersheyPark’s ticket prices compared to the other amusement parks in Pennsylvania are reliable and reasonable. Knoebels Theme Park  has a general admission of about $50.00, Kennywood Park’s is roughly $42.00, and Dutch Wonderland’s daily admission ticket costs about $40.00. Most of these theme parks are around the same price range, and considering the amenities HersheyPark offers inside the park, the price to get in is reasonable and worth it.

HersheyPark’s 11 acre water park, the Boardwalk, has had two, all-new water rides installed for May 26, 2018, in addition to the 16+ water rides already there. The six water slides in the Boardwalk, all grouped together as Coastline Plunge, have been open during summers for years now.

Construction of Breakers Edge Water Coaster and Whitecap Racer began in August of 2017. Breakers Edge Water Coaster will be HersheyPark’s first rafting coaster. This four person inline raft ride will also be the world’s first hydromagnetic water coaster.

The Whitecap Racer is a six lane mat racer being added to the back of the park near the original six water slides. This ride will be the longest mat racer in the world, welcome to friends and family members for the first time this summer.

Breakers Edge Water Coaster is a thrilling ride perfect for a group of four, as the raft is a four-person family raft. The linear induction motors installed in this ride provide a smooth rider experience.

Whitecap Racer was built with open space between each slide, meant for the riders being able to see their competitors on the corresponding slides. This water ride includes two sets of looping tunnels with water splashing the rider every corner they turn.

“The timing system set up in Whitecap Racer is competition-inducing and makes the ride that much more fun for competitive riders,” said Hersheypark Representative, Michael Reynoldson.

Both of these two new waterpark rides will be set up between the Shoreline Sprayground attraction and the Intercoastal Waterway lazy river. The Roller Soaker built back in 2002 was removed from the Boardwalk in 2012 in order to make space for new water attractions coming in 2013. This area is where they decided to build Whitecap Racer and Breakers Edge Water Coaster.

The Boardwalk at HersheyPark is bringing in what they’re calling Food Truck Fridays every Friday from April 27th to May 18th, available to any guest in the park, offering great food, music, and drinks. This will bring more people and customers into the park, which will be great for business on top of the all-new waterpark attractions opening as well.
