As of Thursday, January 16th, the first semester at Hershey High School will be complete, leaving just over four months of instructional days in the school year. With the end of the semester in the rear view it’s important that students reflect on the first half of their school year and ask how they can improve.
With finals, Keystones, and AP testing, the second semester will likely be more challenging than the first, and it’s crucial that students are prepared for what it entails. When looking back on your last semester, ask yourself these three important questions.
- What did I do well?
- Where can I improve?
- What will help me succeed?
When thinking about what you did well, do not only consider the classes you received the best grade in or the project you did the best on. Also ask yourself what study methods worked the best for you, and what helped you retain the content learned in your classes?
It is also important to reflect on how you can improve. If you didn’t have the best semester, ask yourself why. You may find that you need less screen time, or need to reserve time with friends for the weekend to open up more time to study. By making slight adjustments to your everyday schedule you can see immense improvements in your academic performance and overall high school experience.
Lastly, ask yourself what helped you succeed. If it’s taking notes in class, or just actively listening, keep it up! By recognizing what you are doing well and continuing those habits, you are on track to reach your full potential in the second semester.
