The 45th Annual Fishing Derby was held this past Saturday on May 4, 2019 at Bullfrog Valley Pond for youth up to age 12.

“Something we do for the residents of Derry Township,” said assistant director of Derry Township Parks and Recreation Zach Jackson. Jackson was an organizer of the derby that began preparations as far back as a month ago.

After said preparations had been complete and all 700 trout were in the pond, Jackson was pleased with the weather despite concerns over rain the day prior. During the derby itself, several hundred young anglers and their parents could be seen surrounding the whole of the pond.

To support the event, a partnership with the Hershey-Hummelstown Kiwanis Club had been established in addition to a fund drive done by the Friends of Derry Township Parks and Recreation. Prizes and support were also provided by Bass Pro Shops.

In order to fill the pond with trout, the derby drew from three separate sources: Green Spring Trout Farm, Palmyra Sportsmen Club, and Milton Hershey School.
