After the 2017 tragedy in Manchester, Ariana Grande has released an emotional new song called “No Tears Left To Cry.”

The song is a tribute to the Manchester suicide bombing in 2017. The bombing happened during Grande’s “Dangerous Woman” tour in the Manchester Arena and killed 22 people. Since then, Grande had not released new music.

Grande teased at a new song and then released it on April 17.

On April 19, 2018, Grande released the song’s music video. which features Grande in a futuristic world where buildings are upside down and people can walk on walls. Grande is sitting on a wall as she sings the beginning of her ballad. Then she falls through a wall and is stuck in fairy lights. The rest of the video shows her dancing to the song with backup dancers in the dream-like world.

The song begins with Grande’s quiet and dreamy voice. Then, just when the song is about to start the first verse, an upbeat pop beat is added.

With the title “No Tears Left To Cry,” one would expect it to be a combination of pessimism and optimism, but the song is striking in its pure optimism.

“My album is coming this summer,” Grande confirmed  on May 1, 2018 on The Tonight Show, telling host Jimmy Fallon that she worked with Pharrell on the record.

“It was a really awesome experience,” she added. “It is called ‘Sweetener’… because it’s kind of about bringing light to a situation or to someone’s life or somebody else bringing light to your life, sweetening the situation,” Grande said.

“Sweetener” will be released this summer on Republic Records, though no official release date has been confirmed.
