2018 Tony Award nominations announced

Lincoln Center via CBS on May 1, 2018. Broadway stars Leslie Odom Jr. and Katherine Mcphee were the announced the nominees.

Out of all the possible productions that could have been nominated, Mean Girls and SpongeBob SquarePants got the top number of nods, each receiving 12. These nominations included: Best Musical, Best Leading Actress in a Musical, and Best Leading Actor in a Musical.

In addition to Mean Girls and SpongeBob SquarePants, the other two nominees for Best Musical are Frozen and The Band’s Visit. Frozen received three nods, whereas The Band’s Visit received 11 nods.

Alongside The Band’s Visit, the broadway revivals of Angels in America and Carousel also received 11 nods.

The nominees for Best Play are: The Children, Farinelli and the King, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Junk, and Latin History for Morons.

The Tony Awards will take place in Rockefeller Center on Sunday, June 10, 2018. They will be  co-hosted by Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban.
