Hershey Softball team beat Middletown 11-6 on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Hershey Softball, who’s had a rough go at things in the past, started out strong this 2017 season.

Junior Lauren Kroutch stole two bases to get the first run for Hershey. However, Middletown wasn’t going to give up that easy. They came back to tie the game in the second inning and by the third, they were winning by three runs.

The game changed when sophomore, Gabby Malena, came up to bat and hit a home run. Even though that only gave Hershey one run, the team’s morale rose. Later, senior, Mikayla Awde would also hit a home run, allowing three more runners to make it home. Hershey now had the lead.

By the fourth inning, Hershey was keeping Middletown from scoring any more bases. Carly Morelli hit a near home run that allowed another run for Hershey. Later Morelli would steal home. That would be the last run for Hershey.

The 5th, 6th, and 7th innings were uneventful. Hershey managed to keep Middletown from scoring. This is the first win of the year for the Hershey softball team. They hope to for another win during their next game against Lebanon on March 27, 2017.
