Hershey Boys Ice Hockey Defeats Palmyra

Despite losing both previous games against the Cougars, the Hershey Trojans won 5-3 against their rivals, the Palmyra Cougars, on Friday, January 31, 2020.

Senior captain Jason Rippon led Hershey in goals, putting three goals on the scoreboard for the Trojans.

The Cougars came out strong in the first period with a goal just one minute into the game. Soon after, Trojans senior Karsyn Kehler scored, tying up the game.

The Cougars scored again at the start of the second period, but Rippon tied up the game three minutes into the second period.

Tensions were high for the players , and Rippon managed to score twice more, giving the Trojans a 4-2 lead.

Palmyra pulled their goalie late in the game in an attempt to close the gap, but it left a wide open net for freshman Hank Reed. This secured the win for the Trojans; final score 5-3. 

“The two wins against our rivals [Lower Dauphin and Palmyra] this week was big for the team as we start our playoff run next Friday,” said senior Ian McDonald, “We will hopefully build on the momentum we created to make it to the Bears Cup Championship.”

This win puts the Trojans at the number two seed for playoffs while Palmyra sits at number one. 

This was the last regular season game for both the Cougars and the Trojans. The Trojans next match will be against number three seed Central Dauphin in the first round of playoffs on Monday, February 10 at 8:30 p.m. at Klick Lewis Arena.
